For more than four decades, Blue Gum Farm has been one of Australia’s most respected thoroughbred nurseries, synonymous with quality, integrity and producing elite racehorses.

Established by Philip and Patti Campbell in 1981 at Euroa in Victoria’s renowned thoroughbred region, Blue Gum Farm quickly earned a reputation for raising exceptional equine athletes. From its first yearlings sold in 1982, the farm developed into one of Australia’s premier breeding and sales operations, consistently producing sale-toppers, Group performers and elite stallions that have left an enduring mark on the Australian thoroughbred industry.

Throughout its distinguished history, Blue Gum Farm has been home to some of Australia’s most influential stallions, including Encosta de Lago, Rubiton, Umatilla, and Rancho Ruler. The farm’s graduates have enjoyed success at the highest levels, while its yearling drafts have become a consistent benchmark of quality at major sales throughout the country.

A new chapter began in late 2022 when Blue Gum Farm was acquired by Trilogy Rural Investments, founded by Jason and Melanie Stenning. Having been long time clients of Blue Gum Farm, the Stennings recognised not only the remarkable quality of the horses produced on the farm, but also the exceptional team, culture, values and the rich ground that had made the operation one of Australia’s leading thoroughbred farms for more than four decades.

Today, Jason and Melanie lead the Blue Gum Farm team, continuing its commitment to excellence while driving an exciting vision for the future. Their passion for thoroughbred breeding and racing has been developed over many years where they have invested heavily in elite bloodstock, racing and breeding partnerships, including significant involvement with the renowned Newgate China Horse Club Colt Syndicate. Their philosophy has always been simple: invest in the very best bloodlines, surround yourself with exceptional people, and always put the horse first.

For Jason, his love of horses began as a young child. Inspired by both his jockey uncle and his “horse mad” grandmother, he spent countless mornings at trackwork and afternoons at race meetings and stables from just five years of age. Those early experiences ignited a lifelong passion for racing and bloodstock that continues to shape every decision made at Blue Gum Farm today.

Together, Jason and Melanie have embraced the responsibility of preserving Blue Gum Farm’s remarkable legacy while positioning it for continued success in an ever-changing market. Since taking ownership, they have expanded the farm’s breeding and stallion operations, standing Sejardan, Flying Artie, Oxley Road, Libertad and Coleman, while continually investing in world-class broodmares and future stallion prospects.

Under their stewardship, Blue Gum Farm has continued its tradition of commercial success. The farm remains one of Victoria’s leading vendors, producing outstanding results at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, including the 2024 sale where 24 yearlings realised more than $4.4 million, highlighted by the sale-topping Snitzel filly from Jestajingle. Blue Gum Farm graduates continue to perform on racetracks across Australia, reinforcing the farm’s reputation for producing tough, athletic and commercially desirable thoroughbreds.

While much has changed since 1981, the principles that built Blue Gum Farm remain the same—honesty, professionalism, exceptional horsemanship and an unwavering commitment to producing the highest quality thoroughbreds.
