Manhattan Rain is by the multiple Champion Australian Sire and former Blue Gum Farm resident stallion Encosta de Lago. He is out of the Canny Lad mare Shantha's Choice, making him a half-brother to the mulitple Champion Australian Sire Redoute's Choice. Encosta de Lago began his stud career at Blue Gum Farm where he stood for seven seasons and sired 15 of his 26 Group 1 winners.
Manhattan Rain broke his maiden as a 2YO in the 2009 Group 3 AJC Skyline Stakes, before running 3rd in a very wet edition of the Group 1 STC Golden Slipper Stakes. He backed up from the Slipper to win the Group 1 AJC Sires' Produce Stakes and place in the Group 1 AJC Champagne Stakes. As a 3YO, Manhattan Rain ran 2nd in the Group 1 MVRC WS Cox Plate and 3rd in the Group 1 MRC Caulfield Guineas. In just a short racing career before retiring to stud as a 4 year old, Manhattan Rain amassed over $1.3million in prizemoney.
Manhattan Rain is already the sire of 13 individual Stakes winners, including dual Group 1 winner and Champion Australian 2YO She Will Reign and the South African Group 1 winner Whisky Baron. At 61% winners to runners, his progeny excel both on the track and in the sale ring. Manhattan Rain's progeny are in demand at any age, with yearlings selling for up to $700,000 and fillies off the track selling for up to $950,000.
